Extravagant and notorious for its spicy & fruity notes, Java is similar to Kenyan or Ethiopian coffees.

This variety was first cultivated in Java, Indonesia by the Dutch in XVII as part of the exploitation of its colonies. The best beans produced in Ijen, East of the island, were exported to Colombia. Ijen and Colombia share a rich tropical humid climate and volcanic mountains, which allow Java to thrive.

It is now primarily produced in Central American countries, especially Costa Rica.  Because of its resilience against diseases and minimal dependency on fertilisers, it is highly appreciated by small farmers.
